Discussion → Valentine’s Day Blues

Every year I dread Valentine's Day! I feel like if I'm not in a relationship it means I'm a loser. I feel badly about myself and feel really alone. Does anyone have any suggestions about how to get through Valentine's?

I like this approach: Kris Carr is an author and cancer survivor and says - "This V-day I challenge you to dedicate the day to loving yourself. Whether you have a partner or not doesn't matter, date yourself this love day.. Take an aromatic salt soak, write a love note to yourself with red lipstick on the bathroom mirror, fill your eyeballs with an uplifting movie, art exhibit,... play, or listen to Van Morrison while swilling a little red wine (remember: perfection is beige)."

My approach is that I stay pretty indifferent to most holidays or even my birthday. That is easier if you spend most of your time alone. I understand if you are around many other people, like roommates, who all have dates you could feel left out. But if you don't have that peer pressure to make Valentine's day significant, it's up to you whether or not it matters.
